Converters
Converters
— converters are additional lenses that are installed between the camera and the lens and give the effect of increasing or decreasing the focal length of the optics. With the help of such an accessory, you can, for example, turn a universal lens into a wide-angle lens, or a “portrait lens” into a telephoto lens. This can be more convenient and often cheaper than purchasing several separate lenses (although the quality of images using a converter may be somewhat lower than through specialized optics). The main characteristic of the converter is the multiplicity — it indicates how many times the actual focal length of the optics changes when using this model. For example, marking 2x means 2x magnification, and a 50mm universal optic with this addition would be similar to a 100mm telephoto lens; and a converter at 0.5x, respectively, will turn such a lens into a 25mm "wide angle".
