Aviation radios
Aviation
— radio stations intended for use in the aviation industry differ primarily in their range — they operate on frequencies that are not related to the standard options (see "Frequency range"). Like marine radios, such walkie-talkies are divided into portable and stationary.Portable models are mainly intended for communication between employees of airport ground services — among themselves and with the crews of aircraft on the ground. They can also be useful on board a large transport aircraft, for example, to connect a cargo specialist to the cockpit. Such walkie-talkies most often have a range of about several kilometres, which is quite enough, taking into account the specifics of the application.
In turn, stationary walkie-talkies are designed to be installed in aircraft and powered from the on-board grid. At the same time, we note that in ordinary stores you can find only short-range devices — relatively low-power, with a communication range of up to 100 – 200 km. Such models are intended mainly for light aircraft, and their installation, usually, initial technical knowledge and skills are sufficient. But powerful long-range devices with a communication range of up to 2000 km, used on heavy airliners, are already specialized equipment and are not found in ordinary stores.
