Purifiers with capillary membrane

Capillary membrane

— the presence in the purifier (see "Product type") of a cleaning system based on a capillary membrane. By the name, such a membrane is permeated with a network of the thinnest channels of complex shape — capillaries. They effectively pass water but retain many types of pollution — primarily mechanical (sand, colloidal iron). Many membranes are also capable of filtering to a certain extent chemical impurities (petroleum products, organic substances) and even some types of bacteria. However, it is better to provide specialized filters for such impurities.

By the principle of operation, such systems are very similar to reverse osmosis (see the relevant paragraph). However, there are significant differences between these types of filters. Capillary membranes, on the one hand, are not so effective; even some microscopic particles can pass through such a filter, not to mention impurities dissolved in water; and the service life of such a filter is somewhat less. At the same time, capillaries work efficiently even at relatively low pressure and pass all the water entering the membrane. In addition, such systems are considered perfect for filtering water with natural favorable mineralization — they retain useful impurities, while reverse osmosis turns water into "dead", completely devoid of salts.
