— the GSM module allows you to use a mobile phone as a key fob to control the alarm, usually in a two-way format, with the ability to receive notifications on your phone. At the same time, some models support the simplest commands via calls or SMS, thanks to which they can work with any phone, while others are controlled from a mobile application and have extensive features, but are only compatible with smartphones. The advantages of GSM communication is the absence of distance restrictions — it is enough that the car and phone stay in the coverage area; the disadvantages are the additional costs for communication and the delay of the signal when it passes through the mobile network. Therefore, the GSM module is relatively rarely used as the main communication channel — most often it complements the control from the key fob and is responsible for rather specific functions (like calling the driver).
