Glass lids for dishes

— lids made of thick glass. Usually, the handle in such models is made of another material — most often stainless steel or Bakelite — however, the rest of the lid is glass. The main advantage of this material in this case can be called transparency, so you can see the contents of the dish without opening the lid. However when cooking, the glass often fogs up, which makes it difficult to observe; however, even in such cases, at least minimal visibility may be maintained. Speaking about cooking, it is worth noting that glass lids can be used in it with almost no restrictions: this material is heat-resistant, cold-resistant and does not react with either water or acidic foods. And dirt from glass can be cleaned even with harsh abrasives — it is very difficult to scratch such a surface. Microwave compatibility is a specific issue: theoretically, glass is quite applicable in such ovens, but in fact, many lids made of this material are supplemented with metal parts that do not allow exposure to microwaves. The same can be said about compatibility with ovens: glass tolerates heat well, but handles can be made from a more sensitive material. Of the unequivocal disadvantages of glass models, one can note a greater weight than metal models, as well as a higher sensitivity to shocks and falls. At the same time, the glass in such products is made quite thick, and steel sides are often provided along the edges. As a result, in order to break the lid, it usually takes not just a fairly strong blow, but also an unfortunate combination of circumstances — for example, a fall on a hard, sharp object.

In the light of the above, glass is perhaps the best material for kitchen lids, and it is from this that most of these utensils are made.
