Metal lids for dishes

Metal

— metal lids are good primarily for their strength and reliability. Such accessories are not afraid of any blows and drops, and even with a strong blow or pressure, the cover will bend rather than break. On the other hand, metal is opaque, which makes it less convenient than glass in many cases.

Also note two specific points related to this material. First, the composition of the metal can be different. The best option is stainless steel: it is a strong, durable and absolutely safe alloy that has no restrictions on use (except that such a cover cannot be placed in the microwave — however, like any other metal object). Another option is aluminium: in the case of cookware, this material is cheaper than "stainless steel", but less durable and poorly compatible with some products. However, for most cases, the aluminium cover is also quite enough.

The second nuance is the material of the handle that the lid is equipped with. Note that all metals used in kitchen utensils have a high thermal conductivity. As a result, a handle made of the same metal will get very hot along with the lid, and you will need an oven mitt to work safely with it. If it is important for you to be able to remove a hot metal cover with your bare hands, you should make sure that the handle is made of a heat-insulating material (bakelite, wood, etc.) or equipped with protective pads (for example, silicone). However such a handle may not be compatible with ovens.
