Terrines

— thick-walled dishes designed for stewing and stewing meat, poultry and vegetables. Caterpillars (aka ducklings) most often have an elongated (oval) shape, rectangular vessels are less common, very rarely square and round. In addition, unlike cauldrons (see the relevant paragraph), such products were originally designed for use with ordinary household stoves and have a rather large flat bottom.
