Colanders

Colander

— usually a colander is a device in the form of a small saucepan, bowl or ladle with holes made in the bottom (and sometimes in the walls) with a diameter of 2-4 mm. Thanks to such holes, the liquid from the colander pours out freely, and solid products remain in the container. Such devices are known to many primarily as a tool for making pasta: when the pasta is cooked, it is most convenient to drain the water from them through a colander. However, the matter is not limited to pasta: colanders are also useful for other dishes with a similar cooking method (for example, dumplings or boiled potatoes). In addition, in such containers, you can wash both ready-made meals after draining the water, as well as various products — berries, small fruits, mushrooms, etc. However note that the holes of a classic colander are noticeably larger than the sieve cells, and such a device is not suitable for sifting small bulk substances like flour or semolina. On the other hand, large sieves in the form of ladles are often called colanders in common parlance; this is not entirely however but generally acceptable.
