Sugar dispensers

Sugar dispensers

— sugar containers, also called "dispensers". Such dishes are usually made of transparent glass and have narrower, upward proportions than classic sugar bowls (although there are exceptions). However, the main distinguishing feature of the dispenser is still a lid of a special design. A tube with a diameter of about a centimeter is passed through this lid, protruding 2 to 3 centimeters from the outside, and inside reaching almost to the very bottom of the container. The dimensions and shape of the tube are selected in such a way that when the dispenser is turned over, a small portion of sugar falls out of it (roughly speaking, the sugar that was right under the tube at the time of the overturn). Thanks to this, spoons are not required for dispensers, sugar is measured in small portions by the lid itself. In addition, the likelihood of debris, dust and other contaminants getting inside through a narrow tube is much lower than that of a conventional sugar bowl, and the ability not to climb inside with a spoon has a positive effect on hygiene. On the other hand, even the most perfect dispenser cannot ensure the same size of each serving — the actual amount of sugar will depend on the fullness of the container, on the speed of the turn, and even on whether the dispenser was shaken before pouring. For this reason, such dishes are recommended mainly for situations where conventional sugar bowls are not suitable for one reason or another — for example, for outdoor catering establishments where it is difficult to ensure a high level of table cleanliness.
