Fingerprint readers
Fingerprint readers
— fingerprint sensors: This fingerprint is compared with the stored sample(s) and based on this, the system decides whether to allow or deny access. Fingerprint readers are somewhat more reliable than facial recognition systems (see the relevant paragraph), but they require direct contact with an open finger to operate, which is not always convenient. It should be noted that the functionality of such sensors is extremely rarely limited to biometric data alone: many of them are also supplemented by built-in readers for cards, key fobs and other similar access devices (see "readers") and/or their own keyboards (see "keyboard"). The key point in this case is the presence of a fingerprint sensor: if it is, the device belongs to this category, and nowhere else.
To read fingerprints in ACS components, optical sensors are most often used. They are highly accurate, but the window of such a sensor needs to be periodically cleaned of dirt.
