Potato diggers for two-wheel tractor

Potato digger

— a device designed to dig up potatoes (and other tubers of a similar size, although this use is extremely rare in our area). Specific design options may be different, but the principle of operation, usually, is the same everywhere. The working part of the potato digger is a plow, in the back of which a set of rods is fixed, directed backwards parallel or at a slight angle to each other (so that the distance between the rods increases with distance from the plow). When working, the plow removes the layer of earth along with the tubers in it, and it comes back to the bars, which vibrate due to a special mechanism. Thanks to this vibration, the clods of earth are broken, and the tubers remain unharmed; in addition, the plow itself often vibrates, which also facilitates digging.

Note that the sifted earth, along with the potatoes, is usually dumped directly onto the ground behind the two-wheel tractor, so that the dug out tubers still have to be collected by hand, for a full guarantee — also by probing the ground for “disguised” potatoes. However, this way of working is still noticeably more convenient and less tiring than digging potatoes by hand.
