Pendant lamps
Pendant
— a specific type of luminaires with mounting to the ceiling; it is used in the actual fixtures, as well as in chandeliers (see "Type"), it is not found among sconces and spots in principle. In accordance with the name, the design of such a device has a suspension — in the form of a chain, a special cord or even an electric cable. At one end of this suspension is the actual source (s) of light, at the other — a special base for attaching the entire structure to the ceiling. In many ways, suspended models are similar to ceiling models (see the relevant paragraph): in particular, they are used in the organization of overhead, general lighting and may require rather troublesome and time-consuming installation work. The main differences are due to the fact that the light source in such models is located much lower. This makes pendant lights much better suited to high-ceiling spaces, both in terms of lighting efficiency and in terms of access to the fixture for light bulb replacement and other maintenance. In addition, such models often have a peculiar appearance, due to which they can be the best choice also for design reasons.
