— bath siphons usually include not only a direct drain pipe, but also an overflow — a device that prevents the bathtub from overflowing and “flooding” in the bathroom. The overflow inlet is located at the top edge of the tub; when water rises to the level of this hole, it begins to flow through the overflow into the siphon, which does not allow the bath to fill to the brim.
