Active cooling
— the presence of an active cooling system in the design of the drive case .Active systems are systems that forcibly provide heat removal; a classic example is a fan (or cooler, that is, a fan with a heatsink). Such devices are extremely efficient, but they create additional noise and significantly affect the size, price and power consumption — despite the fact that drive pockets usually do not get that hot, and they rarely require high cooling efficiency. Thus, this feature is an almost unmistakable sign of a large-format multi-drive model with advanced control electronics and extensive functionality (in particular, support for RAID — see the relevant paragraph). At the same time, such models are exclusively external (see "Type") — internal pockets, even high-end ones, do not need such functionality.
