Nitro 5 is a representative of the initial gaming segment from Acer. It does not have an aggressive gaming design, which is rather a plus, but at the same time it looks stylish.
Design
The case is made of matte plastic, which is quickly covered with prints, but they are easily removed. The build quality is top notch: nothing flexes, the fit of the components is good, and there are no backlashes.
Equipped with a keyboard with a full-fledged pointer module, as well as red backlighting. As a feature, you can highlight the illuminated edging of the WASD keys. The touchpad is medium in size, has a smooth surface, and supports Windows 10 gestures.
Screen
The IPS display has Full HD resolution (1920x1080 px). The brightness level is 220 cd/m2 and the contrast ratio is 840:1. The sRGB colour range is covered by 62% and AdobeRGB by 40%. The anti-reflective coating will allow you to work comfortably in direct sunlight.
Factory calibration slightly shifts the colours to the cold spectrum, which is generally not critical. For comfortable everyday work, the screen fits perfectly. I would like to note that the backlight is uniform, there are no flashes, as a result, a dark picture is transmitted realistically. Due to the low minimum brightness threshold, working with a laptop in low light is comfortable.
Iron
The laptop is equipped with an Intel Core i5 7300HQ processor (Kaby Lake generation) with a clock frequency of 2.5 GHz in conjunction with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti video accelerator with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory. The prefix "Ti" means that this is an improved chip, by the way, compared to the usual GTX 1050, performance increased by 10 – 15%.
Under heavy loads, the performance loss due to heating (throttling) is minimal, and considering that the laptop is not equipped with the “coldest” components, the cooling system and internal layout are worthy of respect.
The amount of RAM is 8 GB DDR4 type with a clock frequency of 2400 MHz, which can be expanded up to 32 GB using two slots. The storage is a 256 GB SSD. The rejection of obsolete HDDs in favor of a solid state drive can be called a bold step on the part of the manufacturer — the system works quickly and stably, and the risk of mechanical damage is minimized, but at the same time, the storage capacity is small. Considering how much modern games “weigh”, you can’t do without an external drive.
