— matte coating is bit cheaper than glossy one, and it doesn't glare in bright light; and pollution (like fingerprints) is not so noticeable on it. On the other hand, the overall image quality on such screen is somewhat lower, it is difficult to achieve high-quality colour reproduction or high brightness on it. As a result, this option is used mainly in business laptops, as well as some low-cost models.
