Tyre IceContact 3 became the first sign of Continental with rubberized studs. The use of these made it possible to improve the grip on ice and significantly reduce the wear of the road surface.
Rubber coated teeth
ContiFlexStud studs have been installed on tyre modifications in sizes R17 to R21. The rubber body of these "claws" wears out in parallel with the tread, so that the high performance of the metal pin inside the "cocoon" remains unchanged throughout the entire operational life of the tyre. Since about mid-2020, Continental has switched all tyre sizes to standard aluminium studs due to the high probability of rubber “teeth” falling out.
herringbone pattern
In exchange for the asymmetric tread structure of the Continental IceContact 2 model, the C grade got a herringbone pattern that better handles with the removal of melted snow and water masses from the contact patch. Tyre tread blocks are strewn with three rows of wavy 3D lamellas. Together with the sharp-angled edges of the blocks, they form many gripping edges of the tyre with a slippery road surface.
Top grade
IceContact 3 is one of the quietest studded tyres on the market. At least in the original version with rubberized spikes. The car in them demonstrates confident grip on icy roads, precise reactions to steering commands, and a shortened braking distance. And although the first pancake at Continental turned out to be a little lumpy, there is absolutely nothing to scold the tyre for — this is a high-level “studding” for powerful cars and any winter roads.
