Wireless on-ear premium closed-type Bluetooth headphones with IP53 water protection and Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) from the eminent Danish manufacturer Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industry. They are the senior model of the 2019 Dali IO wireless device line. They feature impeccably high sound quality, support for Qualcomm aptXHD/AAC Hi-Res codecs and excellent battery life (up to 30 hours).
A practical and reliable design with swivel cups and an elastic headband trimmed with delicate artificial leather ensures that the device is securely held on the user's head. At the same time, soft and fairly wide ear cushions with memory foam filler create a confident clamp without excessive pressure on the ears. The Dali IO-6 headphones fit perfectly to the wearer's head, providing maximum comfort and acoustic isolation.
They are positioned as a product of the upper price category, designed for users who have high demands on sound quality in a noisy environment. The high-tech active noise canceling system allows you to enjoy music quietly on a busy street, on public transport or on an airplane. Acoustic transparency mode is supported, there is a possibility of cable analogue connection. Built-in microphones allow you to use the headphones as a hands-free headset for voice calls.

Seven times measure cut once
The Danes from the small and terribly established audio brand Dali were reluctant to enter the headphone market for a long time, simply because they did not want to rush. Say, it is better to release excellent headphones once than mediocre ones 7 times. In 2019, the fruit finally ripened and Dali released the Dali IO-6 wireless headphones, which are fully in line with modern trends: active noise cancellation, Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD, built-in battery for 30 hours of continuous operation, USB-C port through which you can stream music with PC and Mac, plus much more. Judging by the number of awards in music magazines, Dali was not in vain so long awaited: they sound just fine, and the implementation of noise reduction is so successful that sometimes it’s not even clear whether it is on or off. But first things first.
When the music flows
Let's start with the most interesting, namely the Dali signature sound and complex speakers with pulp and wood drivers. They captivate with their overall timbre richness, transparency in the upper middle and an abundance of details even at a low comfortable listening volume. Dali specialists, apparently, diligently worked on optimizing the cameras — there are no any resonances in the “cups” or compression on the bottoms. On the contrary, there is some inevitable lightness, airiness in their presentation, the music seems to flow into them. I was somewhat surprised by the digital sharpness of the Dali IO-6: when connected via cable, they always played a little less brightly and expressively than via USB-C or Bluetooth with aptX HD. And the tonal balance shifted towards the upper-mid frequencies, losing the readability of the bass. And this is almost their only minus. The second point is the demands on the sound source, but this is a feature of many Hi-Fi headphones.
Strength in the little things
Everything is no less great in terms of comfort. Dali has spent hundreds of hours searching for the perfect shape that fits snugly on one side of the ears to minimize the impact on the sound character, but still sits comfortably on the head. The solution to the problem was carefully selected ear pads, which are filled with “memory” foam and trimmed with leatherette that is pleasant to the touch. Among other useful “little things” stand out conveniently made playback and volume controls, a splash-proof housing (IP53 class), reinforced headband attachments and swivel cups that allow you to quickly fold the headphones into a case and throw them into a backpack. When the guys from Dali said that they fiddled with the case no less than with the speakers, you believe them. These are not just audiophile headphones that you need to blow dust off, but a robust model that is perfectly adapted for real life.
