Alienware successor
In the summer of 2021, Dell introduced a bunch of new gaming laptops, among which the new G15 5510 stood out. In fact, it replaced the rather simple Dell G5 5500 model, although its design is closer to the flagship Dell Alienware. At least it has the same elongated back, massive rear vents and a massive lid. The G15 looks especially cool when open, with a mesh grille above the speakers and a neat keyboard with red trim and dedicated WASD keys. The build quality and materials are not as high as expected, plastic was used instead of metal for decoration, and the lid and the central working area play if they are slightly pressed down.
Excellent value for money
But all this is offset by one important fact: the Dell G15 is one of the most affordable gaming laptops on the market with an NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti graphics card. The graphics card is accompanied by a tenth-generation 8-thread Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. Let's say right away that the bunch is not the most common and we like it. Usually, entry-level gaming assemblies now use a more powerful processor with 6 physical cores and 16 GB of RAM, but video cards are set simpler. Considering that we are talking about a gaming laptop, we prefer the Dell version, because the performance of the existing processor is enough for games in Full HD, and the graphics card usually acts as a narrow bottleneck.
Optimum equipment
In the list of strengths of the laptop, you must definitely add the USB-C port, which can transmit a video signal, fast charging, Wi-Fi 6, HDMI port of the latest version 2.1 and a rather comfortable keyboard with a neat white backlight, which is convenient for both playing and typing. The quality of the cooling caused doubts, because the processor and graphics card are soldered on the back of the motherboard. In fact, it turned out that four cooling tubes and two fans were just enough to blow the available good. During gaming, the keyboard and case get barely noticeable, and the turntables are no louder than average. With a weak load on the CPU, they can completely turn off. But the unequivocal minus Dell gets for the display. The 15-inch VA panel doesn't have the best viewing angles, mediocre colour reproduction (45% NTSC) and not the most impressive response time (35ms). Well, at least the refresh rate is 120 Hz.
