High-quality protected wireless headphones with touch control from a well-known Chinese brand. Designed for demanding users leading an active lifestyle. The design of the device has some similarities with the famous Apple AirPods, but unlike them, this model is vacuum, the so-called in-ear (vacuum) type. The body of the headphones is made of spectacular glossy plastic, and its shape ensures a snug fit. The device is protected from dust and water according to the IP54 standard, which allows you to safely use them outdoors, including when playing sports (they are not afraid of sweat). With the right selection of ear pads (4 pairs included), Huawei FreeBuds CM-H1 headphones are securely held in the ear, which will not be disturbed even by light rain. Pairing with an audio source is performed...using the energy-efficient bluetooth version 4.2 protocol, which operates within a radius of up to 10 m. The manufacturer guarantees compatibility with devices running Android and iOS. In both cases, the accelerometers built into each earpiece are used, with the help of which gesture control works. There are infrared sensors on the earbuds, thanks to which playback is automatically paused if you take one of them out of your ear. The claimed frequency range is 20 – 20,000 Hz, which ensures smooth and high-quality sound of any musical genre. Batteries built into each earphone provide up to 3 hours of battery life.

Video reviews

Huawei smartphones have established themselves as excellent, functional and ergonomic gadgets, and headphones do not lag behind them. FreeBuds CM-H1 were created as a competitor to AirPods and eventually managed to take a considerable piece of the market from the "apple" flagship.

Unsinkable

Outwardly, FreeBuds resemble AirPods. They have a similar long stem, but unlike the Apple device, the Huawei model is in-ear. So, it cuts off external noise well and sits deep in the ear. However the complete ear pads are not so hot, because of them the headphones may not sit tight enough and fall out with sudden movements, so they are not suitable for sports. But in bad weather they will come just right. IP54 protection allows you to use the products even in the rain. They pass the water contact test without any problems.

15 minutes to charge

Like all fully wireless models, Free Buds have a compact charging case. It is offered in the colour of the headphones and can be not only white, as is the case with AirPods or Meizu Pop, but also black. The case is oblong, made of matte plastic, pleasant to the touch and fits comfortably in the front pocket of jeans. But in terms of battery life, he does not indulge too much.

The built-in rechargeable battery provides the headphones with up to 9 hours of operation. This is almost 3 times less than the AirPods case offers. From one charge, FreeBuds work up to 3 hours, and they are half charged in just 15 minutes, and this saves the situation significantly. The full charge cycle of the case itself is 1.5 hours.

Sound clarity

Modest battery life fades into the background when you start listening to music. The sound of the Free Buds is pleasant. Clean and accentuated in the mid and high ranges. This sound is achieved through the use of two types of emitters: dynamic and reinforcing, as well as support for the AAC codec. Free Buds cannot boast of anything else in terms of sound, but they sound an order of magnitude better than AirPods and Meizu POP, and this is already a success.

Over the air updates

And yet, first of all, Free Buds is a quality headset and only then headphones for listening to music. By the way, touch control does not support rewinding tracks, only through the voice assistant. And this is a clear inconvenience for music lovers. But there is an interesting, although not the most necessary option — turning off the sound when the earpiece is removed from the ear — the built-in accelerometer works.

On older firmware, there may be lags in synchronizing audio with video, but for android it is suggested to install Free Buds Assistant proprietary software and update to the latest version, which fixes almost all problems.

Free Buds are significantly cheaper than AirPods and even slightly cheaper than JBL Free, so Huawei fans and those who are looking for a profitable alternative to the “apple” gadget will definitely like it.
