The fourth generation of Huawei FreeBuds wireless in-ear headphones with water protection, active noise reduction technology and high-quality sound. They differ from the third-generation model in a more affordable price, an improved case opening mechanism that can be easily handled with one hand, and a reduced weight. Designed for users who choose a high-quality sounding Bluetooth headset that allows them to enjoy music in noisy environments (on a busy street, on public transport or on an airplane).
Huawei FreeBuds 4i headphones have an original ergonomic shape with teardrop emitters and "legs" protruding from them, in which batteries and controllers are located. Supplied with a semi-oval plastic charging case. This model can be used with any smartphone running both Android and iOS. Anyway, for full-fledged work, you need the Huawei AI Life application, which allows you to fine-tune and update the software.
Claimed protection against dust, splash water and sweat according to the IP54 standard. SBC and AAC codecs are supported. High-quality dynamic drivers (10 mm) provide a detailed sound that allows you to correctly play music tracks of any genre. The energy-efficient Bluetooth 5.2 interface ensures stable pairing, while the batteries give you up to 7 hours of music playback with active noise cancellation (up to 10 hours without it).

FreeBuds 4i is the fourth generation of mid-range headphones from Huawei. The “i” index means that the model has some of the functions of the flagship FreeBuds Pro headphones, but is much cheaper, namely, twice — $ 75. Let's see what the manufacturer offers for this price tag.
Appearance
The FreeBuds 4i case is shaped like a slightly flattened egg. It looks nice, fits comfortably in the hand and in the pocket, but has a couple of significant disadvantages. The lid made of thin plastic is loose, and due to the perfectly smooth glossy surface without any notch or hook, it is difficult to open it when holding the case with one hand. The finger just slips off.
Getting headphones out is also not very convenient. Again because of their smooth round shape and strong magnet. But the fit in the ears is quite comfortable. It is not dense, due to which there is no pressure on the eardrum, however, the headphones hold well and do not fall out. I liked that the nozzles have a mesh that additionally protects the main sound guide grille from dirt, and the headphones themselves are not afraid of dust or splashes due to the protection of the housing according to the IP54 standard.
The model is offered in 4 colours, but they are all neutral (white, black, grey, silver). Brighter ones would definitely help.
sound
The sound of the headphones is very simple, not too expressive, but not overloaded with frequencies, with a good transfer of volume and scene. The frequency response is quite flat, with a slight rise in the region of 2 – 5 kHz. For sports, walking around the city is what you need. But definitely not for music lovers.
But active noise cancellation (ANC) is below average. Worse than in FreeBuds 3i and even more so, FreeBuds Pro. But the transparency mode (talk through) works well, using microphones to transmit external sounds to the speakers. "Transparency" traditionally helps out when you need to quickly answer the question of a cashier in a store, hear an announcement or turn to a passerby on the street.
Another disadvantage was the lack of infrared sensors responsible for autopause. That is, playback does not stop when you remove the earpiece from your ear. And this is strange, because in cheaper Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 3, for example, this option is available, although it works every other time.
What really pleased me was the high quality of voice transmission. Yes, your interlocutor understands that you are talking on the headset (there is a slight echo, as with a speakerphone), but he hears everything clearly and legibly, even a whisper.
battery life
Objectively, 4 hours of battery life for wireless headphones in 2021 is nothing. Therefore, FreeBuds 4i work on a single charge up to 8 hours with active noise reduction and almost 10 hours without it. And they charge in just an hour. And it's very cool.
Connection
As far as call quality goes, Bluetooth 5.2 does the trick. Headphones stably connect with devices running Android and IOS at a distance of up to 10 m, without breaks and out of sync. There is support for the AAC codec, as well as the ability to fine-tune and update software through the Huawei AI Life application, which is available in official markets.
Huawei FreeBuds 4i is the best solution for those who lead an active lifestyle and talk a lot in hands free mode. You will always be in touch with them. And it will always be of high quality. An excellent choice for adequate money.
