A performant and affordable 4-in-1 laser colour multifunctional with automatic two-sided (duplex) monochrome/colour printing, automatic document feeder for scanner and fax functions. Kyocera's proprietary colour laser printing technology guarantees fast (up to 21 ppm) output of b/w documents and colour business graphics with a standard resolution of 600x600 dpi. For premium quality prints, a slower print mode with a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi is provided. The Kyocera ECOSYS M5521CDN MFP flatbed scanner is equipped with a CIS sensor that provides scanning resolution up to 600x600 dpi.

Copying can be performed one-to-one (with the original size preserved) or scaled from 25 to 400%, with the scaling step adjustable to within 1%. The multifunctional device is able to fully operate as an independent network unit in a Fast Ethernet LAN network. The available USB 2.0 Type-A connector and a powerful ARM processor with 512 MB of RAM allow you to quickly process and print multi-page documents from USB Flash or USB HDD media.

A good device for home and office, but not without problems

The printer undoubtedly has its advantages and disadvantages. As for its positive aspects, printing and scanning, although I have encountered cheaper printers with higher document scanning quality, the issue with this scanner is that white sheets of paper appear more yellowish. The printing speed is impressive, and I am especially pleased with the duplex feature, which allows automatic two-sided printing. It is also very convenient that the printer has two scanning methods: automatic feeder and regular flatbed. Previously, I had printers with either only a feeder or a flatbed scanner. With this printer, I can automatically scan batches of documents or scan book pages on the flatbed scanner. An uncompromising option! I would like to highlight the convenient web interface for working with and configuring the printer.

However, I can't overlook the disadvantage that arose with the device during use. The waste toner removal auger failed within the first year of operation due to clogging with "hardened" toner. After repair, I try to periodically check whether the toner has clogged in the auger channel. Another issue arose when the color toner was depleted; without it, the printer refuses to print even b/w documents, although there is an option in the printer settings to "Print in B/W when color toner is unavailable."
