Our last purchase of a main TV was the LG 60UH7700 Super UHD in late 2016, and setting up that TV was simple, so I expected a similar experience. This model has low build quality (the top of the back panel is bulging). During the initial setup, the screen had an unpleasant red tint and didn't offer the same clarity as our previous LG 4K TV. After testing the picture quality using 3 separate HDMI cables (including two supporting HDMI 2.0b specifications), two different inputs, and every available picture mode, I finally managed to achieve some improvement in picture quality. It's almost impossible to handle the TV without touching the screen during installation, but it's easy to mount on the bracket. Smooth appearance, convenient placement of inputs on the back panel of the TV, and quick launch buttons are available. The UHD picture quality looks great with improved black levels, especially after adjustment. It's easy to hang on the mount. It has a sleek appearance, conveniently placed inputs on the back panel of the TV, and quick launch buttons. The UHD picture quality looks great with enhanced black levels, especially after adjustments. This model has poor build quality (the top part of the back panel is convex). During the initial setup, the screen had an unpleasant red tint and did not provide the desired clarity. It is almost impossible to handle the TV without touching the screen during installation. |
The 55SM8600 is a 55" low-cost panel from the popular NanoCell line. The TV looks modern, but not to say that it stands out from the competition: a thin body (6.4 cm), barely noticeable side frames, an elegant twisted stand and a uniform back panel made of glossy plastic will easily fit into any interior, but are unlikely to rive the attention of the guests. Due to the fact that the stand here is not the most stable, it has its place on the wall, since there is a VESA mount 300x300 mm. However the manufacturer did not bother to think over the place for the ports more qualitatively, therefore, with the wall-mounted version, access to some ports may be difficult.
Accurate colour reproduction and modest margin of brightness
The IPS panel delivers 4K resolution, has a 120Hz refresh rate (upscalable to 240Hz with TruMotion) and boasts good colour reproduction (8-bit + FRC colour depth). HDR10 and Dolby Vision standards are supported along with HLG. The undoubted advantages of the image include the traditionally large viewing angles for IPS, high peak brightness, fast response speed of the matrix and the high refresh rate mentioned above. Cons: The panel isn't the most high-contrast and brightest, and blacks lack uniformity, making the HDR mode look like it's been left out. For example, when a moving light source appears in a dark room, it shimmers unnaturally on adjacent areas of the screen. As a result, it adequately handles dynamic content like video games and sports broadcasts, and also looks great in a bright room, but fails in home theater mode in perfect blackout conditions.
α7 Gen 2 processor
LG 55SM8600 runs Smart TV webOS 4.5, supports Amazon and Google voice assistants and has a good set of additional features. In general, the equipment here is at the level, there is everything you need to connect by wire and by air. Separately, I would like to note the α7 Gen 2 processor, which skillfully pulls the picture in old blue-rays to the required 4K, and has several smart picture enhancement modes. This is especially true for adjusting the contrast according to the ambient light. The built-in sound system delivers a total power of 20 watts with Dolby Atmos support and virtual surround sound, but does not cause delight. The soundbar will definitely come in handy.
