Strong Workhorse

The Makita FS2300 doesn't boast speed, but it does have a high torque (25 Nm — which is quite a lot for drywall screwdrivers). These characteristics are no coincidence, as this tool is designed for installing drywall sheets as well as denser finishing and building materials, including plywood and particleboard. The power is sufficient to screw them not only to wooden battens and aluminum profiles, but also to metal frames. The screwdriver easily spins screws with a diameter of up to 6 mm and a length of up to 70 mm.

Convenient, but Heavy

This model is intended for professional builders. Therefore, the approach to tool design is accordingly professional. For example, the gearbox housing is aluminum, and the gears inside it are made of heat-treated steel. The hot air is vented away from the motor in such a way that the airflow doesn't scatter dust. The body and handles are rubberized everywhere they touch the hand. The cord is long enough (4 m), durable, and flexible. There is an LED light. The depth of fastener driving is very precisely adjustable (up to 0.2 mm). You can also buy the Makita 199146-8 magazine attachment for feeding screws in a strip separately for the screwdriver.

The only complaint might be the large weight (1.6 kg). In fact, it's only relatively large, as many models of handheld power tools are significantly heavier. But, considering the specifics of finishers' work, who hold the screwdriver in extended arms or overhead all day long, an extra 200 – 300 grams compared to other corded screwdrivers might seem like a solid load at the end of a workday.

Affordable Mid-Class Screwdriver

The Makita FS2300 is a decent middle-of-the-road screwdriver. It's reliable and time-tested, and its price isn't too "painful" (for professional builders and finishers), so the tool quickly pays for itself in skillful hands. But if you're bothered by its weight, there are lighter models available: for example, the Makita FS4000 and Makita FS6300. They are less versatile since due to their lower torque they won't handle screwing in plywood and particleboard. However, for working with drywall, these screwdrivers are an excellent fit.
