Power drill with impact mode from the famous manufacturer Makita. A 680 W motor provides the device with a speed of up to 2800 rpm, and an impact mode of up to 44,800 beats per minute, which, of course, will not replace a rotary hammer, but will allow you to work effectively with hard materials such as metal or concrete. For greater stability during operation, an additional rubberized handle is provided, located near the cartridge. To replace the drill, you will need a special key. The depth limiter will allow you to drill many identical holes.

Model overview based on user reviews
The Makita HP1640 drill is a popular choice for home use, offering a balance of affordability and functionality. It features a 680 W motor and a metal gearbox, making it suitable for drilling wood, metal, and medium-density concrete. Users appreciate its comfortable grip and ergonomic design, which allows for easy handling during various tasks. While some users have experienced issues with the chuck and noise at low speeds, others praise its reliability and durability over several years of use. The drill's impact mode is effective, though not as fast as a rotary hammer, and it lacks some professional features like protective sleeves. Despite some concerns about its longevity and service support, many find it a reliable tool for household tasks, with the ability to handle occasional professional work. However, some users feel the price is high for a non-professional tool, and there are mixed reviews regarding its build quality and service experience.

We have been using this model at home/dacha for about five years. Good, reliable car. It may not be super powerful, but it is more than enough for household tasks.
Excellent option for home, affordable price, reliable

Do not buy this device and I do not recommend other products of the brand.

This tool doesn't hold up to criticism, and that extended warranty doesn't change anything. In a year and a half of owning this model, I've drilled between 20 to 50 holes in walls because I used the screwdriver for small holes, and I needed the drill specifically for its hammer function. It broke down in such a short period. The service technician who took the drill for repair said that the hammer function is only there to boost sales, and for making holes in walls, you should get a hammer drill.
Costs like half a Mercedes, you can make a gift that's worth showing off.
Not a long life cycle for the instrument, it is in warranty repair.

If I had known, I wouldn't have bought it.

When purchasing, account for the absence of lubrication; it's not included. Check for imbalance at the time of purchase.
The power is sufficient, comfortable grip, hasn't burned out yet.
Beating in my copy, I will replace the chuck, maybe it will help, because of this drilling with small drills is a torment, strange noise at low speeds from the gearbox.

Ten Years at the Top of Sales

The Makita drill lineup consists of nearly fifty models and is constantly expanding. But the Makita HP1640 has maintained steady demand for about ten years. Its popularity secret lies in its relatively low price (by Makita tool standards) and a balanced set of features. This drill has a decent 680W motor and a metal gearbox, allowing it to efficiently handle common construction tasks. It can drill wood and metal, and the impact mode enables drilling in silicate bricks, ceramic blocks, and medium-density concrete. If needed, the drill can be used for mixing small volumes of mortar and putty.

Every Detail Thought Out to Perfection

The drill has good ergonomics. It fits comfortably in the hand, and all buttons and switches are placed so they're easy to reach but almost impossible to press accidentally. The chuck rotation speed is controlled by the pressure on the trigger button. The regulation works smoothly and accurately even at low speeds, so in extreme necessity, the tool can even be used as a screwdriver.

Included with the drill are an adjustable side handle necessary for more comfortable work, a depth stop for quickly drilling series of identical holes, and a key for tightening the chuck. This model is sold without a plastic case, but there is a version with a case — the Makita HP1640K. However, the brand's tool case can always be purchased separately if you need it.

A Drill for Those Who Buy Tools for More Than Just a Year

Makita power tools are an excellent choice if you want to buy a drill with durability that will serve faithfully not just for the entire warranty period, but significantly longer. For a moderate price, you'll get a quality tool assembled from reliable components. Although this model does not claim to be fully professional (the device is not designed for high-intensity work), it covers 95% of the tasks performed by drills on a construction site. As an alternative, you can consider the "junior" models of drills from Metabo and AEG.
