For the 2020-2021 winter season, the Korean company Nexen released the studded model Winguard Winspike 3. This rubber "with claws" belongs to the economy class, but in terms of its driving qualities, it can compete with more famous tires from major tire manufacturers.

Fast and efficient drying of the contact spot

The tire is equipped with a classic winter V-shaped tread pattern, which includes a central stiffening rib. From it, expanding drainage grooves diverge to the sides, opening in the shoulders, which allows achieving high efficiency of drying the contact patch when overcoming water obstacles or driving on snowy roads.

Steel Claws

The main elements of the design are anti-skid studs, of which there are about 190 pieces. These "claws" are placed in the holes using Star Twister technology, which ensures rapid removal of ice chips from the stud attachment points. This ensures reliable grip on icy road surfaces. The placement of studs is also aimed at stabilizing the grip properties in both the transverse and longitudinal directions. However, it is worth noting that due to the presence of studs, the tire demonstrates an increased braking distance on wet asphalt.

Massive shoulder pads

The Nexen Winguard Winspike 3 model is equipped with massive shoulders, which ensures sensitive reactions to steering commands during active maneuvering on winter roads. The disadvantages of the tire include an increased level of acoustic noise when rolling, which is a characteristic flaw for most studded winter tires.
