Nikon entered the radio-controlled flash arena in 2016. The Japanese brand's first home-grown radio-controlled device was the portable SB-5000 flash.

Flagship of the series

The model is positioned as the flagship of the Speedlight series with all the ensuing events. The flash's guide number "floats" in the range from 35 at the minimum zoom value (24 mm) to 55 at its telephoto position (200 mm). Like most of its peers, the "head" of the device rotates 180° to the right and left, rises 90° up and tilts down within 7°. The design of the head's rotating joint inspires confidence.

Remote control

From the start, full compatibility of the flash is declared in a pair with Nikon D500 and D5 SLR cameras. And then, to send commands for "ignition" via a radio channel, you will need to acquire a separate WR-R10 transmitter, which is connected via a port with 10 contacts on the front of the camera. In general , remote control via radio and optical signal is possible in Master and Slave modes. In the master mode, the model can operate up to 18 pulsed light sources, united under the wing of 6 groups.

Ease of handling

The large-caliber screen with a whole scattering of useful information and a powerful cooling system add convenience in handling the flash, due to which at full power you can “snap” about 120 frames with a 5-second interval. Additionally, the manufacturer has equipped its brainchild with a diffusing cap and two color filters. In close connection with the flash, it is possible to realize almost all photographic ideas, which is why Nikon Speedlight SB-5000 is valued among “Nikonists”.
