Within the Lumea photoepilator series, the Advanced SC 1994 is Philips' entry-level solution. But in general, it can be attributed to the advanced segment of household appliances for removing unwanted hair. It uses IPL technology, that is, an intense light pulse. It stands out against the background of mechanical methods of hair removal with painlessness, and the manufacturer also claims that smooth skin after a course of procedures lasts at least 3 months.

The Philips Lumea Advanced SC 1994 powered epilator is equipped with a skin tone sensor that automatically selects the optimal mode of operation. In addition, there are 5 flash level settings that can be set manually. The built-in UV filter is responsible for protecting the user, protecting the skin from the negative effects of ultraviolet radiation. Plus there is a security system that will prevent accidental flashes. A large light window (4 square cm) is designed to speed up the epilation procedure: it is stated that the treatment of the shins takes about 15 minutes. Before choosing a model, it is worth considering contraindications for photoepilation, as well as the fact that the scope here is limited to the area below the neck (the device is not suitable for the face).

a model with serious flaws
15 September 2020
let's put it this way, it's junk, not a photoepilator. I felt the urge to get rid of excess body hair through photoepilation. I kept hinting and hinting to my husband about this thing, and he paid for its purchase before March 8 of last year. I'll announce right away that the hair did not go away. There may be less of it, but not significantly. And considering that this isn't the cheapest model. The more budget-friendly ones probably have no effect at all. I approached the matter seriously, consulted with a dermatologist, watched a bunch of videos on using a photoepilator, and got started. First of all, it's an unpleasant procedure, it hurts like hell. In my opinion, even laser treatment is more bearable; secondly, to reduce the hair even a little, you have to zap them on the highest setting. Again, it's very painful; thirdly, either I'm not like everyone else, or this thing is ineffective. Personally, my hair got thinner, but it didn't go away. Generally, in a good scenario, after 2-3 months of use, the hair should decrease by 50%. In my case, I didn't notice any difference compared to using a razor at all. In the end, I gave up and went to a salon for photoepilation. That's when I finally saw results. It's no less painful, but effective. From this, I conclude that a home photoepilator is useless, and if you're going to do epilation, it should be with professional equipment.

Philips Lumea Entry Level

The SC 1994 photoepilator from the Philips Lumea entry-level range is noticeably cheaper than its more advanced counterparts. To reduce the cost, the manufacturer simplified the package and reduced the versatility of the device while maintaining high efficiency comparable to more expensive models.

The device comes with one attachment with a window size of 4 cm². The manufacturer recommends using it for treating arms, legs, abdomen, and underarms, but not for the face and bikini area. It is important to note that additional attachments cannot be purchased separately, so if a multifunctional model for all areas is required, other options should be considered.

The photoepilator operates from the mains and is equipped with a lamp with a lifespan of 250,000 flashes. According to Philips, following the procedure schedule, the device can last up to 20 years. The set also includes a pouch for convenient storage of the device.

Focus on Safety

Special attention in the Philips Lumea Advanced SC 1994 model is given to safety issues. IPL technology provides effective hair removal without damaging the skin, and the bright flashes are safe for the eyes, so protective glasses are not required. There are 5 power levels for different skin and hair types. A special Skin Tone sensor automatically reads the skin tone at the beginning and during the procedure and blocks the flashes if the skin is too dark. Additional protection is provided by a UV filter, and the safety system prevents accidental impulses when the attachment does not fit snugly against the skin.

Although the device does not fall into the category of "smart" technology and does not support remote control, Philips offers a free mobile app with recommendations, procedure reminders, and detailed instructions on operation and skin care.
