The tyre of the second generation has undergone many changes in comparison with the first signs of the line. Key innovations were introduced in the design of spikes: their number increased from 130 to 190 pcs. (in model size 205/55 R16), the weight of each "claw" has decreased from 1.1 to 0.9 g, and the height — from 11 mm to 10 mm. The 24-row stud arrangement made it possible to significantly reduce the braking distance on ice and reduce the noise level of the tyre when rolling. In addition, the “teeth” with a tungsten carbide tip turned out to be more resistant to abrasion.

Driving performance

In the model, the winter composition of the rubber mixture, molded into a V-shaped directional design, was used. The zigzag edges of the tyre tread blocks increase the edge effect, the additional gripping edges of the tyre with the roadway form sharp edges of three-dimensional sipes, and powerful lugs in the shoulders help the rubber “scoop” out of the snow porridge. In addition, a variable tread pitch is put on guard for reducing noise levels.

Pirelli Ice Zero 2 belongs to the upper class of winter tyres and is available in a wide range of sizes from R16 to R22. Also in 2019, the portfolio of the Italian brand was replenished with an SUV version of the model, adapted to work with high loads (typical for SUVs).
