Monitors from Presonus

Presonus has made a name for itself with sound cards and the fairly popular DAW Studio One. However, recently they have taken up the production of studio monitors, releasing three different series: Specter (top level), R (middle level) and Eris (low-cost segment). It is the latter that we will discuss in this review.

Kevlar cone and front bass reflex

The PreSonus Eris E8 cabinet consists of an 8" Kevlar woofer and a high-resolution silk dome tweeter for a flat frequency response and wide sound propagation. At the bottom of the speaker is a slotted phase inverter, thanks to which you will get a more saturated lower frequency range. The main features of the monitor include a bi-amp circuit: this means that the signal is separately amplified for low and medium frequencies, and separately for high frequencies.

Flexible room customization

One of the main advantages of Eris E8 over competitors is the ease of installation of monitors in the room. For this, we should thank the front phase inverters and a flexible acoustic correction system. It consists of the acoustic space switch itself (adjustable for 3 options for the location of monitors in the room), bass and treble controls, as well as a separate filter up to 100 Hz, which allows you to more finely tune the bass response depending on the distance of the speakers from the wall. The thing, no doubt useful, and greatly facilitates installation in an unprepared room. Unless we really like the selected crossover frequency, which, when cut off the mid frequencies, “bites” some of the high frequencies a little.

Hard accented sound

The frequency range of the Eris E8 is quite wide (from 35 Hz to 22 kHz), and the sound is honest and uncolored. The middle does not fall through, the low ones are enough to tune the bass. By nature, the sound is somewhat harsh and accented. This is probably a feature of Kevlar drivers. There is a small hump on the midbass around 95 Hz. Perhaps the most important thing is that there is high detail for its level and the arrangement of tools in space. For example, monitors adequately play back a bulk of acoustic guitars and synthesizers, while maintaining attention to detail and not turning the sound into mush.

Additional features speakers PreSonus Eris E8:
  • Mid/treble level control (±6dB)
  • Level control at frequencies up to 1000 Hz (0, -2, -4 dB)
