TIME FOR A REALITY CHECK Ever since the 1970´s the iconic white woofer and signature sound of Yamah´s nearfield reference mon... moreitors have become a genuine industry standard for a reason - their accuracy.Unlike studio monitors with added bass or treble frequencies which may sound more flattering at first, HS Series speakers were designed to give you the most honest, precise reference possible, providing an ideal sonic platform to build on throughout the mixing process.By combining acquired knowledge and expertise with state-of-the-art sound technologies, Yamah´s speaker engineering team have examined, then optimized, every aspect that has contributed to making these monitors the most trusted in the business. The second generation HS Series also adds a new 6.5´´ model to the lineup, bringing its exceptional accuracy to an even greater variety of recording environments.2-way bass-reflex bi-amplified nearfield studio monitor with 8´´ cone woofer and 1´´ dome tweeter.Sound Philosophy of HS Series Studio Monitors When selecting studio reference monitors for mixing and music production, one consideration takes precedence above all others - accuracy.Beginning with the legendary NS-10M, and continuing with the MSP and previous HS Series, this new lineup shares a design philosophy that emphasizes sonic purity without any coloring or alternation of the original sound. While many manufacturers seek to enhance the sound of their monitors to make them sound impressive, Yamaha studio monitors are designed to achieve the best possible mix by ensuring that the sound from your speakers is true to the original.HS Series nearfield reference monitors are the embodiment of this philosophy, delivering a concise sound image, high resolution, and flat response.Newly Developed Transducers The HS Series features newly developed transducers that achieve astonishingly smooth response over a wide range of bandwidth. These transducers utilize an advanced magnetic field design that regulates the flow of magnetic response to provide seamless, natural sonic transitions. Each component´s materials and design were carefully re-examined, then optimized, to drastically improve the accuracy of signal reproduction throughout the audio spectrum.- Tweeter The HS Series features a newly designed, highly efficient 1´´ dome tweeter that extends the usable frequency range considerably and delivers superb high-resolution sound.Utilizing a thick wave guide designed to minimize vibration the new tweeter is able to deliver smooth, distortion-free high end up to 30 kHz.- Woofer With newly designed, ultra-responsive woofers that utilize large, carefully selected magnets, HS Series monitors produce low distortion sound with a well-defined bottom end at any output level. All of the components in these high-power woofers, including the woofer ring and the basket further contribute to the HS Series´ stunning bass while providing clear, accurate mids.High Performance Amp Unit HS Series speakers

Model overview based on user reviews
The Yamaha HS-8 speakers are active near-field monitors known for their smooth, clean, and accurate sound, making them ideal for mixing and mastering. They feature a flat frequency response with a range from 47 to 24000 Hz, ensuring that any recording errors are easily detectable. The design includes a polypropylene woofer and a fabric dome tweeter, with a bass reflex port to dampen resonances. While some users appreciate the great sound and well-defined bass, others have noted issues such as a small range on the tweeter and potential quality control problems, like volume discrepancies between monitors. Despite these concerns, the HS-8 is praised for its ability to enhance mix quality, though its neutral and dry sound may not suit all preferences.

Sheeeeesh!!!! This is just what the doctor ordered for the budget audio engineer. The sound is such trash, only worse than the legendary Yamaha NS-10. XD. Actually, it's a semi-surgical device that will elevate the quality of your mixes to a new level. Good sound, bass just as it should be, well-defined, and not overblown. I resell or send back a lot of monitors, but these Yamahas, I kept for myself XD
Great sound.

No
Small range on twitter, weak bottom, rubbery sound in my opinion, a very high probability of getting a MARRIAGE ... for example, I have one monitor twisted 4db louder, and this is the only way I could get more or less the same sound of a pair, and a friend has one on the bottoms the monitor gives an overload ... Considering their price, this is terrible ... You can’t mix in them at all !!!

Time for improvements

Acoustics Yamaha HS-8 is the older model of active near-field monitors of the HS series. Keep in mind that this series was updated in 2013. The two monitors HS50M and HS80M have been replaced by three new models HS-5, HS-7 and HS-8. The most interesting thing in the new series is the use of completely different dynamic heads, which made it possible to equalize the frequency response and get more feedback at low frequencies.

Yamaha Signature Design

The diffusers of the traditional white woofers are made of polypropylene. A fabric dome tweeter is used as a tweeter, protected by a metal grill from mechanical damage. The phase inverter is brought to the back side, so it is undesirable to install them near the wall. Although, the process of arrangement itself is how much simplified by a simple acoustic correction system and a high-pass filter. The power of one monitor is 120 watts, of which 75 watts are dedicated to the diffuser, and 45 watts to the tweeter. Frequency characteristics are played in the range from 47 to 24000 Hz.

Smooth, clean and accurate sound

The entire HS series delivers smooth, clean, accurate, and as portable as possible. The upper frequencies are well developed here, the mid frequencies sound detailed and without dips, and the low frequencies do not have a pronounced spurious colour or resonances. Here thanks to the well-calculated phase inverter. The character of the Yamaha HS-8 is restrained and, one might say, neutral. The sound has no colour at all. Thanks to this and a flat frequency response, they are perfect precisely as monitors — any jambs during recording and mixing noticeably crawl out of the mix, so that you can’t give up on them. Plus, if the younger models with a 5 and 6-inch cone lack some pressure at low frequencies, then the HS-8 bass is just right.

Successor to the iconic Yamaha NS-10

However, Yamaha's honesty has a downside, if you use monitors for studio jamming and recording rather than mixing or mastering, then their dryness can be tiring. They play beautifully — this is definitely not about Yamaha. Apparently, this has been going on since the days of the iconic Yamaha NS-10, which were specialists in catching recording errors. Therefore, before buying the HS-8, we strongly recommend that you listen and compare them with other models like Mackie MR824, JBL 308 and Kali Audio LP-8.

Additional features speakers Yamaha HS-8:
  • Treble level control (±2dB)
  • Level control below 500 Hz (0, -2, -4 dB)
