Roland ROLAND A-88mk2 MIDI KEYBOARD CONTROLLER 88-key MIDI keyboard | £1,389.99 |
In 2012, the Japanese company Roland created the perfect A88 midi keyboard for efficient use of software synthesizers, pianos and many sound modules. Today, the model has already been discontinued, but still remains an exemplary classic of midi keyboards. We'll talk about the updated version of the old hit — A-88 MK2.
High class design
The 143x12x27 cm midi controller weighs 17.5 kg, mainly due to the 88 hard hammer action keys. Despite this, the case is quite thin, compact and easy to transport. The keyboard performance deserves special attention. Like the A88, they are made with Ivory Feel-G technology. Thanks to improved sensor response and an ivory-like matte finish, the player gets the same tactile sensations as when playing an expensive piano.
Everything for the implementation of ideas
If the A-88 isn't particularly impressive by today's standards, the MK2 doesn't have that problem. In addition to the standard set of transpose and octave shift modes, the instrument supports three-zone split keyboards, an arpeggiator mode, and auto-accompaniment with chords. Eight coloured pads let you trigger various commands and events, while eight illuminated assignable knobs let you control DAW parameters. Combinations of settings can be stored in 16 presets, which was not the case with the A-88. In addition, the controller supports the Midi 2.0 protocol.
Connectivity
Of the innovations, the keyboard received MIDI In and a USB-C port. MIDI out, 3 TRS outputs for pedals, the ability to work from the USB bus of a connected device, compatibility with Mac, Windows and iOS remained unchanged.
Today, when the Roland A88 has already been discontinued, the A88 MKII has every chance to win the laurels of its predecessor, because the main thing in it has remained unchanged — a chic piano keyboard.
