Bought this ssd as a workhorse. I do video filming, and I edit videos where necessary. Since I have a laptop in the car, at work and at home, I try to keep the premiere projects and distributions in one place. So the idea came to buy a capacious ssd and record everything there. The most important thing is the speed of work. I did not measure it programmatically, but a 10 GB file is uploaded in ~ 22 seconds. As far as I'm concerned, it's not bad. Projects open without problems, Prime does not tupit working directly from the disk. The download is fast too. In fact, this is a normal fast ssd. The case, of course, is a little frail as for me, although they write that it is protected, but some kind of very light or something, does not inspire confidence in general. They put 2 cables in the kit, mom-dad type C, and dad-dad type C. I am satisfied with the disk, it takes up a minimum of space, it works quickly, it does its job at 5. I took it for 2 TB, black. Fast writing and reading. There are no problems with connecting to the laptop. Very compact, no bigger than my smartphone. They write that it is shockproof, but I have not tested it yet. Just a wonderful SSD, large capacity, shock resistance. I've had it fall off the table several times and it's fine. Samsung positions the T5 as the perfect external drive. Smaller than a regular credit card, it weighs only 51 grams and is 10.5 mm thick and is impact resistant. At the same time, the speed is 5 times faster than a conventional external HDD.
Drop-proof aluminium housing
The case is made of aluminium, but with two plastic inserts on the edges. The workmanship is very high, the device looks monolithic. The metal housing provides protection against accidental bumps and falls from two metres. Plus there is hardware AES 256-bit encryption to protect the data on the drive from prying eyes. Plus, the T5 comes with a simple utility for setting a password when opening the drive.
5 times faster than external HDDs
The drive can be connected to a computer via either USB Type-C or USB Type-A. When connected via a USB Type-C port, the drive delivers read speeds of over 530MB/s and write speeds of over 483MB/s, broadly in line with the manufacturer's claims of up to 540MB/s read speeds. If you connect the Samsung T5 to a USB 3.1 port, the read speed will be 425 MB / s, while the write speed will be 429 MB / s. These are pretty good numbers, but in all honesty, almost all external SSDs now work in this range, so it’s rather difficult to praise or scold them for their speed.
Works with smartphones
Of the additional functions, we note the ability to connect the drive to Android smartphones that support the OTG function. Thanks to this, the built-in 1000 GB can be used to back up photos or, for example, to watch movies and listen to music on the road without taking up device memory.
