Professional approach

Seagate BarraCuda Pro is a specialized HDD series designed for professional video editing, photo processing, 3D modeling and other tasks that require the most speed, capacity and reliability of a PC disk subsystem. The volume of BarraCuda Pro can vary from 2 to 14 TB. By the way, Seagate has already announced an even more capacious 16 TB HDD, but it belongs to the Exos corporate series.

Round the clock work

BarraCuda Pro hard drives use hard-wearing parts to ensure they can run 24 hours a day, seven days a week without any problems. While the usual BarraCuda — only eight hours a day, five days a week. And the maximum allowable load for reading and writing data, the so-called workload, is as much as 300 TB per year. By comparison, regular BarraCudas only have 50 TB per year.

Spinning discs

BarraCuda Pro sequential read and write speeds are claimed to be 220MB/s for models up to 10TB and 250MB/s for models 12TB or larger. Our own measurements with the Crystal Disk Mark application showed that the actual speed is even higher — 230 MB / s for the 8 TB version. The amount of RAM buffer is 128 MB for models up to 4 TB inclusive and 256 MB for older versions.

Lost — no problem

Another distinctive feature of BarraCuda Pro is the Rescue Data Recovery service. If you lose data on a drive, regardless of the cause, Seagate experts will perform a free recovery procedure with a 90 percent success rate. But for this, the disk will most likely have to be sent abroad. The data recovery service is valid for two years, and the warranty period for the drive itself (repair or replacement) is 5 years versus only 2 years for the regular BarraCuda.
