The Stiga SV 415 E aerator is equipped with two types of actuator. The set includes two working heads, one with steel blade hooks and another with spring-loaded rakes. I haven't used the second one yet, but I will need to change it and see how it works eventually.
The aerator is set very low relative to the lawn, and it should cut small grooves into the soil, about 1-2 cm deep, to give plants access to air through the soil. The top layer of old soil is more like a crust where nothing passes through.
When you cover the entire plot with the aerator, and as you look at your work, you might gasp and be horrified. It will look like a gray cemetery from horror movies.
