Model overview based on user reviews
The Velbon Videomate 638 tripod is appreciated for being not heavy, making it easy to transport. However, users have reported significant issues with its durability and stability. The camera platform tends to wobble and shake under slight load, and the plastic ring on the video head handle side cracked within the first week of use. This part, which bears a significant load, breaks easily even after repair attempts. Additionally, the bolt that fixes the handle position loosens quickly, requiring constant re-tightening. Although the head is technically removable, it lacks the expected standard screw mount, which limits its compatibility with other equipment. Overall, this model has serious flaws, and users suggest investing in a higher-quality tripod or opting for a simpler, more affordable option.
Pros
Cons
I do not recommend purchasing! It’s better to pay an extra 3-4 thousand rubles and buy a good tripod. If you need a simple tripod, you can take something cheaper. Not heavy. The camera platform wobbles and shakes under slight load. The plastic ring on the video head handle side cracked in the first week of use. Since this part bears a significant load, it also quickly breaks after being glued with super glue. Without this ring, the handle wobbles unbelievably. The bolt that fixes the handle position loosens after 2-3 seconds of use, requiring constant re-tightening. The head is not removable! More precisely, you can remove it, but instead of the expected 1/4" or 3/8" screw mount, there's some inexplicable stud. Meanwhile, there is a head for sale with exactly the same PH-368 marking, but with a screw mount. |
