A line of 3.5″ format server HDD drives from the American manufacturer Western Digital. Positioned by the manufacturer as a product in the upper price category, aimed at small business clients with intensive workloads. Can also be used as a reliable additional drive in a workstation, gaming PC or home NAS server. A key feature of WD Red drives is the specialized NASWare firmware with a number of innovative solutions that ensure stable and uninterrupted non-stop operation.
Thanks to the RAFF adaptive compensation system with a shaft fixed on both sides and three-dimensional balancing, WD RED PRO drives completely neutralize the negative impact of vibration of mechanical elements, allowing you to install up to 8 drives in a rack. The heads are parked only when the power is turned off, so the drive continues to operate even in standby mode. TLER technology allows you to automatically find bad sectors and postpone their correction until the next downtime.
And thanks to the integration of ATA Streaming, such an HDD can stream video while maintaining the ability to process parallel requests from other devices. The series is represented by a dozen drives with capacities from 1 to 22 TB. All of them are made in a 3.5-inch form factor, use a standard SATA connection and are compatible with almost all modern file storage models. They are characterized by an extended service life - up to 600 thousand parking cycles and over 1 million MTBF hours. Depending on the volume, the advertised data transfer speed ranges from 164 MB/s to 265 MB/s. The spindle rotation speed is the same in all cases - 7200 rpm. All drives use the classic CMR magnetic recording method, which is characterized by high data access speed and increased service life.

Purchased the WD4003FFBX at the beginning of the year in a used condition with minimal operating hours. It performs well in operation. Compared to the Toshiba x300 4Tb, the Toshiba vibrates more, but during read-write moments, the knocking from the WD is unpleasant, which subjectively feels even worse than the Toshiba. If a noise level of 37 dB is not critical, and good airflow because the best among 6TB does not exist yet. There are 3 HDDs of 6TB released in March 2017 - they show a heating of 53-55 degrees, a few days ago I bought another one made in May 2017 with a sensor heating up to 48 degrees, what is this - probably they changed the firmware?? The main thing is the speed of work - best in class 6 TB Strong heating, in NAS Asustor 6210T up to 55 degrees; Under heavy load, it's somewhat noisy for home use - it buzzes loudly use WD Red Pro month or more |
