For winter use, it is acceptable to mount tyres with a lower speed index of one level (letter) than equivalent size summer/all weather tyres. EG If the summer tyres have a speed index of W, winter tyres with a speed index of V can be mounted. Speed and driving style should also be adapted to within the constraints of the rating and conditions.
