The JHS Pedals Overdrive Preamp is a faithful replication of the first version ("Big Box V1") of DOD's most loved pedal, the Overdrive/Preamp (250). The controls are simple. The Level control adjusts the overall output of the circuit and lets you cut or boost the signal. The Level control of this version has been modified (corrected) from the original wiring, giving this pedal much more volume on tap. The Gain control adjusts the amount of gain inside the overdrive circuit. Turning up the Gain control creates more clipping as it pushes the op-amp and hard clipping into overdrive. Other companies need a lot of buttons for a good sound, we only need 3 for each overdrive pedal and 2 for the clean boost pedal. From slightly distorted bass with tube sound character to completely distorted - no problem for the LDP (OD/CB). The overdrive pedal has a deep boost (toggle switche) to push the lower frequencies without getting muddy. The clean boost with deep boost (toggle switch) gives a lot of pressure to the sound and up to +20 dB (toggle switch) output level. The Royal Blue Overdrive is an extremely touch sensitive overdrive. It offers a wide range of tones from light overdrive into distortion and at lowest Distortion knob setting works as an EQ. It can also be used to create tube amp-like crunchy ‘strike hard for distortion’ effect. There is not much filtering on the overdrive, to provide a transparent tone that you can tailor with both the Treble and Bass controls. Like the best boutique amps, the Royal Blue OD lets you determine the amount of breakup by how hard you strike the strings with your pick, and/or by adjusting the volume knob on your guitar.
