Taccia Table Lamp is a lamp with a story and its design manages to remain modern in spite of the fact that it’s 60 years old. 1958: Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni wanted to design a lamp with indirect light. December 1958: the brothers made a prototype of Taccia with a plastic lampshade and base. 1960-61: after multiple tests, they had to stop making the lamp from plastic, as the heat of the light source made the plastic lampshade lose its shape. March 1962: Flos finished developing the lamp and the final prototype was made with an aluminium reflector and glass lampshade capable of resisting the heat of the light source. 2010: Flos looks into the option of creating an LED version of the lamp, marking the first time the iconic product was developed further. 2016: Flos tests the use of PMMA for the lampshade. Thanks to the new COB LEDs that have decreased the impact of heat on plastic, it is now possible to manufacture Taccia with a plastic lampshade as originally intended in 1958. Please note that Taccia Small is only available with a glass shade.
