The main way to use sector antennas is to optimize the radiation pattern when the “enveloping” equipment (for example, a Wi-Fi router) cannot be placed in the centre of the workspace: by installing the antenna against a wall or even in a corner, you can transmit the signal in the right direction and avoid it going beyond walls (and extra power costs).
