For rolling grooves

— machine tools used to roll grooves in the preparation of pipes for couplings.

For such a connection, a groove is required that “encircles” the pipe around the circumference. Rolling machines form a groove as follows: the pipe is put on a rotating thrust cylinder, and a special roller presses on it from the outside, pressing the metal into the surface and creating a recess of the desired size. The necessary force on the roller is created by a special mechanism — for example, a hydraulic pump.
