Vitamin E

— a vitamin from the fat-soluble group. Its main biological role is the regulation of cellular metabolism. In particular, vitamin E (tocopherol) has both an antioxidant and antihypoxic effect — it protects cells from oxidative damage and, at the same time, reduces the need for oxygen, thus avoiding oxygen starvation. In addition, it is required for the normal development of the nervous system in children. Vitamin E also improves the absorption of some other important substances, in particular vitamin A.

Vitamin E deficiency for several reasons is often observed in residents of territories contaminated with radionuclides. Serious vitamin deficiency leads to a wide variety of unpleasant consequences, including infertility and muscular dystrophy. At the same time, note that taking this vitamin as a separate drug should be done with caution: there is evidence that high doses of tocopherol can lead to osteoporosis (bone fragility) and even early death, even if there are no obvious signs of hypervitaminosis. Therefore, it is worth taking drugs of this type only after consulting a specialist.
