Vitamin C

— vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is one of the most famous vitamins. It has a powerful antioxidant effect, it is necessary for the normal course of redox processes in the body; scurvy develops with a lack of vitamin C. Also, ascorbic acid is involved in the synthesis of some important substances — in particular, serotonin, collagen (a protein that plays the role of building material for skin, bones and tendons) and interferon (a protein that increases the body's immunity to viruses). At the same time, it is worth noting that the conventional wisdom about the effectiveness of high doses of vitamin C in the treatment of colds has not found practical confirmation; and assumptions about its role in preventing aging turned out to be noticeably exaggerated (although generally true). This means that it makes no sense to consume vitamin C in “shock doses” — at best, you will have to overpay for excessive consumption of the drug, at worst, side effects of hypervitaminosis (sometimes very unpleasant and even dangerous) may develop.

Ascorbic acid in the composition of specialized complexes can be combined with various additional components. One of the most popular options is citrus flavonoids: they also have an antioxidant effect, and in combination with vitamin C, they also strengthen capillaries and improve blood circulation.
