Under the saddle

— bags attached under the saddle of a bicycle — usually at the back, behind the seatpost, but there is also a front location.

This option is perfect in terms of weight distribution: the additional load is located close to the centre of gravity of the entire system "man plus bike", and even a significant mass does not affect handling. On the other hand, saddle bags are not designed for a significant mass: the installation location greatly limits their size. In addition, getting to the contents of such a bag while driving is very difficult (and highly undesirable from the point of view of traffic safety).

In light of all this, it makes sense to purchase bags with such placement mainly for the transport of small items, the need for which arises exclusively during stops. A classic example of such cargo is a bicycle multitool and a tyre repair kit.
