— a special type of pump designed for inflating bicycle tires using a pressurized carbon dioxide cartridge. The compressed CO₂ gas ensures the fastest possible pressure inflation in tubeless tires—taking them from flat to inflated in just a few seconds. To operate, simply screw the cartridge with an adapter onto the bicycle tire's valve until you hear a distinctive hiss, and then quickly push it all the way in to open the CO₂ gas release valve. There are pumps that discharge the entire contents of the CO₂ cartridge into the tire, and models equipped with a special valve for inflating the pressure to the required level. The capacity of compressed gas cartridges usually ranges from 16 to 25 g. The cartridge is often encased in a cover to protect the cyclist's hands because CO₂ pumps become very cold while releasing carbon dioxide.
