— the Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) standard provides data transfer rates up to 6.77 Gbps (theoretically). However, the speed of a Powerline connection is usually much lower, and the full potential of such a connection can only be fully used in Wi-Fi repeater mode (when the adapter amplifies the signal from the router). Therefore, the key advantage of Wi-Fi 5 is not so much speed as operation in the 5 GHz band — it is considered more reliable than 2.4 GHz. On the other hand, 5 GHz frequencies are not available in all Wi-Fi devices, so Wi-Fi 5 is usually combined with other lower standards.
