The contents inside such pouches are reliably protected from weather vagaries of the environment and mechanical damage. They are supposed to be used for wearing on a waist belt or by a loop on any carabiner. It is not uncommon for headphone pouches to be provided with a MOLLE attachment system for further compatibility with armor and other ammunition items.
