Padlock

— classic padlocks — that is, locks that are hung on the door when closing, and can be completely removed when opened. Such a lock has a shackle, which, when closed, is threaded into two ears — one on the door, the second on the jamb; or the lock is put on one eye, fixing the tongue, which prevents the door from opening. Padlocks are rarely used for residential buildings and apartments, but they are popular in service and auxiliary premises — garages, sheds, utility rooms, cellars, etc. Among the key advantages of such devices are low cost, as well as ease of installation: an eye (eyes) for locks on many doors are available initially, and in extreme cases, the “ears” can be installed without much difficulty on their own — this is easier than mounting a bill of lading, and even more so a mortise lock. On the other hand, the degree of protection of such a lock is low: the shackle or eyelet is cut without any problems by a grinder or bitten with a bolt cutter.
