Retainer

— a type of lock used exclusively in internal interior doors. Most often, such locks are made mortise (see the relevant paragraph), while handles are installed on both sides to open the door, and on the one hand there is also a latch (rotary or in the form of a button or other device). When the latch is turned on, the handles are blocked, and it becomes impossible to open the door in the normal way. Locks of this type are especially popular in doors for bathrooms and toilets: entering the room, you can lock from the inside. However, they can also be used in the doors of other rooms, if an increased degree of privacy is required.

Note that the latches may have devices for opening from the outside. These can be both turnkey locks and devices in the form of a slotted disk that can be turned with any flat object (for example, a screwdriver or a coin).
